If time-lapse is what you're after, here is a link to a FREE DV capture (and print-to-tape) utility that can be set to capture every "Nth" frame.

I use this utility ALL the time and wouldn't be without it. I just used it at a conference last weekend to capture over 12 hours of live video to my laptop. I just plugged a Sony PD-150 into the laptop via Firewire and captured away. Not a single DV tape was used and I can now start editing without first having to capture 12 hours of tape. Also, some of the talks exceeded 80 minutes, which is the longest MiniDV tape you can get. Using direct capture to hard drive, the time limitation of MiniDV tape is simply no longer an issue.

The FS-3 not only does time-lapse, but it does real single-frame animation. So now it's possible to do true stop action animation just like Ray Harryhausen. :o)
