Definitely the most capable software player for virtually everything (including BluRay) I ever used is PotPlayer ( It has been suggested to me by John Cline when I found my 4K 500 Mbps XAVC clips from my FS7 don't play back well on VLC, and I've been using it ever since (thanks John!)

Cyberlink PowerDVD

It plays Blu-ray ISO files and folders as well as discs and runs smoothly.

Thanks for the suggestions - except for the homework assignment... :)

I should add that PowerDVD plays full BD menus, as does DVDFab Media Player, but POT Player doesn't, nor does it play copy protected (most commercial) BDs.

PowerDVD is a bit too bloated for my liking. What player features are important to you?

If you want VLC to play encrypted BDs, see

I found TMT a bit system intrusive and WinDVD Pro problematic in terms of other software killing its de-encryption. You must have the Pro version for BD playback.

I went with Power DVD Ultra..

A little bloated as you said, but it is playing everything I've thrown at it so far..

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the VLC BD hack, and it didn't work for me..

It works for me. I have version 2.2.3.

Check your installation. Also make sure that when you select to play a disc that you say that it is a BD. The default for me was DVD and it complained.

Arcsoft Total Media Theatre is now a "retired" product.
