OT: Sorenson leaves Vegas out again

This isn't the first time I have posted this, but I think it is still foolish for Sony Creative Software not to create a Mac version of Vegas or at least better implement the Quicktime format.

I use Sorenson Squeeze to create Quicktime files and also VP6 for flash.
Both are in the version of Sorenson 4.5 that I own.

Sorenson Media have released a promising new Sorenson Squeeze 6, but the integration description reads as follows:

Squeeze 6 is now seamlessly integrated with AVID, Final Cut Pro, iMovie and QuickTime Pro Applications.

For Quicktime files especially, I can't find a better software than Sorenson to create high quality Quicktime with little effort. SCS or SF before them never seemed to feel that Quicktime was that important a format to implement well. And now, Sorenson comes out with yet another version of Squeeze that integrates well with every other major video editing software except Vegas (and I guess Adobe).

Read the review

I can upgrade to Sorenson 6 right now for $199, but it won't integrate with Vegas. This to me is a shame.

Anyone else agree?

John

Right from the horse's mouth, so to speak :-)

Thanks Mike!!

I wonder why they didn't list Vegas in their integration description on the main page?

Either way, I am going to buy it.

Still think SCS should make a Mac version though.

John

EDIT: Looks like the upgrade price is only for upgrades from Sorenson 5 Pro right now. I may wait until the next offer. They send them via e-mail all the time.

With full integration of H264 with Flash, I wonder why a lot of production houses are still using Sorenson and VP6? Is it an Avid/FCP thing?

Because Squeeze is not fully integrated with Vegas. The Vegas workflow relies on the "watch folder" functionality of Squeeze. With Final Cut, you can choose Squeeze presets from within FCP and then render to your preference.

With Vegas you have to render your timeline to uncompressed and then this render is converted by Squeeze.

It's a two-step, rather than a one-step process

It's the "poor man's" frame serving. They are calling it "integration", because there is no user intervention, once you render uncompressed from Vegas. You could write a Windows vbs script that would make that happen with pretty much any encoding program.

All right with me, as long as they not hamper the Windows look and feel in the Windows version. In my opinion, there are too many Mac multi media applications running on Windows, without having Windows way of doing things. I have the impression that on the Mac, much more is mouse driven than on the PC.
