Hi Jeff! I'm not exactly sure of your situation and did not read everyone's reply to this, but if you own you home and have a sizable lot, you could always build another building on your property with separate entrance and some amenities bathroom, hang area, along with couple of rooms. The drummer I tour with build a beautiful studio on his property (for Protools mostly) and it came out great and he's making some good money on his investment. I think he did it all for 100 k or so and worked it out with the equity he had in his house, plus you can still wrtie it off tax wise. It is a pain being that close to home 'cause your so close to home there are many distractions, but it has worked well for him as opposed to having a bedroom converted into a studio. It was done very pro and was an excellent choice for him. I'm sure you've considered this, but thought i would chime in any way.

I do my editing at home, but use his studio for audio.

My experince in sharing a facility was a very bad one, but not all stories end up that way. I had to call out the thugs to get my stuff back after it was stolen by the ones that i was sharing it with.

I love working at home in some ways, but the bad news with that is I'm always at work since the 2 (home/stufio) are one. Too many distractions. An additional building on your property can be worked out so that distractions are not allowed! :o) Derek

I made the decision awhile ago to move from the house to a more formal work environment. Due to expenses I choose to move into a business center, that provided many resources which would not have been possible to obtain on my own.

The concept (I have heard that they are popping up in descent size towns / citites)
allows for many small business to use the facility and share the resources. I rent a private office which is where I am able to do all administrative and post work, have access to two conference rooms (one is state of the art with a 50 inch plasma). I have access to a training room / 500 sq ft. room which can be converted into empty space.
Plus you get high speed internet, phone, copy center, janitorial, kitchen.

The service that really sold me was that they have a shared receptionist who answers the phone during business hours. I was always concerned about the potential client who calls... hears the answering maching and sometimes doesn't leave a message because they never got to a human being.

Best of luck in your decision making.
