Sorry, but not sure where else to ask this.
My parents have just bought a Samsung HDTV with a Samsung DVD/Home theatre system. Currently I have set it up with HDMI connection between home theatre & TV but don't seem to be getting and action from the rear speakers.
I have also connected the Audio out (phono) from the TV to the Home Theatre System and selecting Aux 2 on the HT.
Should I be using the Digital Audio Out from TV to HT or does the HDMI suffice?
Thanks for any pointers/tips.
Further reading of the manual shows:
'When the HDMI IN jacks are connected, the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack on the TV outputs 2 channel audio only. If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio, connect the Optical jack on the DVD player or Cable/Satellite Box directly to an Amplifier or Home theater, not the TV.'
As the signal is deriving from the TV and I want to send it to the HT system I assume, then, that means full surround is supplied via the HDMI and I don't need the optical or phono connections. Or not?
