OT: This is a call! Let's be heard!

I posted about a week ago regarding drawing and rotoscoping. After searching through the forums, I realized I am not the only one looking for these features. Also, it seems that those who used it seem to remember SF Viscosity (Sony Screenblast Image Editor) rather fondly as a bare bones program with some nice touches. Well, currently Sony is sitting on this program and not selling it in any form, so let's get on our keyboards and ask them to throw us a bone (or a disc). It seems like a little nudge could get them to provide it to us for a small fee (or better yet, COMP US!). Download only, it wouldn't cost them much, and it would make Vegas users even happier. I know Satish (God bless him) is working on a program of this nature, but maybe Sony themselves could help to sustain us until he finishes.
I've already written. Now it is your turn!

I've got Viscosity and still use it almost daily. However, there are a couple of problems that may be keeping it from distribution. For one thing, it doesn't handle DV files of any sort. That means that you have to export to uncompressed and it has to be type 1 for Viscosity to open it. This isn't an insurmountable problem, but i have a feeling that SONY media software would rather not push something so non-integrated. The other problem is that this software wasn't originally created by SonicFoundry. It was written by Jedor (whoever they were) and only marketed by SonicFoundry and SONY. It could be that they don't have the rights or the materials to do further development of the software.

Oooh, it's available as shareware now.

I can't seem to find any mention of registration price or limitations on use without registering though.

This place lists it as shareware with a $179.00 price. However, the link to the homepage of Jedor Viscosity is http://www.jedor.com/ which looks like it's now just a portal for some little search engine site.

Wasn't Viscosity a static image editor? If one has PhotoShop, wouldn't that do anything that Viscosity could do?

I do agree, though, that to have some sort of interface that would allow rotoscoping and (even better) advanced masking would be an awesome addition to Vegas.

Viscosity would allow avi's to be imported. I have used Photoshop Elements with success for years for several years in my projects, but have never figured out how to get an avi in there without exporting every single frame to a seperate files. Adobe Premiere offers filmstrip mode, which exports avi's as stacked frames within a single file, and Photoshop Elements can open them, but that might be a proprietary file name, because so far Vegas has failed to embrace it. Could be a copyright thing. It would be nice to have a plug in for that. Anyway, even with its limitations concerning DV, it would be nice to have. Please write Sony anyway. I know they will probably wait until the next Vegas offering, and it looks like Satish will beat them to it, but maybe the big guys will help us out too. By the way, is there a way to get the SonyEPM to comment?

I think it is well worth waiting for Satishs new Wax plugin for Vegas.

And what exactly was WAX supposed to be offering? I must have missed this somewhere along the way.

And by the way, Viscosity can still be downloaded just like all of SoFo / Sony's programs from teh Updated software page. It's version 1.5 and has the 30 day trial limit if you don't own a serial number.

The one time I played with it was not very impressive to me. I would much rather have a full fledged rotoscoping plugin for Vegas. Something that would help with the tweening. I've written this request into the "product suggestion" page quite a few times with different wording. That started back with Vegas 3. Since I hadn't seen anything in the last two years, I thought maybe I was alone in my want of an integrated rotoscope/paint program.

3D scaling, 3D shapes, 3D moves, 3D lighting, 3D text, texture generator, particle generator and rotoscoping (and a few things more).
And I think the rotoscoping facilities may fit exactly what we like to see there. From what I have seen in the Wax beta-test this plugin could be the most powerful Vegas plugin we ever had.

Oooooh no JB, you weren't alone!
Look at my posts for example... ; )

JB,
Viscosity is still listed, and you can download the file, but if one tries to register, a message pops up that says Viscosity is no longer sold. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for the Wax update.
