I am again dependent on the good graces of Chienworks to host a few more clips of my "Europe By Song" DVD project over on his site. Once again, this is a project I did last summer, when I followed a high school choir from Oregon on their performance tour around Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
I shot the project using minimal equipment--a well-used Sony TRV8 miniDV camcorder, a surprisingly good-but-cheap Velbon fluid-head tripod, and a cheap little Sony MS908C stereo microphone. I used Vegas for the editing, along with a modest dose of SteadyHand. The MPEG2 encoding task was performed by CinemaCraft, and the fancy DVD authoring was done with Maestro. The current DVD-A program could not have done all of the tricks that I used in the finished project, such as multiple audio programs and such, and the current MainConcept MPEG2 encoder would not have done quite as good a job of compression either, BUT I strongly suspect that the next versions of Vegas and DVD-A (DVD-B?) will be able to do all these things.
Anyway, the three new clips are as follows:
(1) riredale--intro split
There were a few questions about the "Europe By Song Intro" clip that I had uploaded last week. In this new clip, I show the walking-into-the-church shot again, but in a split-screen format. One can note the effect of the SteadyHand image-steadying process.
(2) riredale--Lord Bless You
The text on the Chienworks site explains everything. I got fed up trying to decide which of three camera angles to use, so I threw up everything on the screen.
(3) riredale--Watch out
One of the singers was a real ham, and here she demonstrates how to get lots of sympathy without actually getting injured.
As mentioned in previous posts, I am going back to this part of the world this summer, but with a younger version of the choir. This time I'll be taking a VX-2000 camcorder and recording in 4-channel surround. The equipment this time looks much more "impressive" but also about 10 times heavier. I'm developing biceps like a weightlifter.
