OT: Ultimate S Pro 4.0.1 update is available

JohnnyRoy wrote on 4/29/2008, 5:21 AM
There is an update (4.0.1) to Ultimate S Pro available on the VASST web site. This update adds scroll bars to the interface when docked in Vegas Pro 8.0 and fixes a few minor problems. It also adds the ability to skip beats when Adding Markers to the Beat. For example, you can now drop a marker every measure by adding them every 4 beats in 4/4 time.

The update can be obtained by downloading the trial version and installing over your existing version. It will pick up your license key and become the full version. As always, let us know if you encounter any problems.

Does it work in Vista 64? 3.0 does not.

Both Ultimate S versions 3 & 4 work just fine under Vista 64 Ultimate for me.

How does it not work in Vista 64 for you? What error did you get? Feel free to send an email to ultimatesupport at VASST and we'll work on this with you. Ultimate S Pro runs as a command extension to Vegas Pro 8.0 or as a script under Vegas 6 & 7. If Vegas works, Ultimate S should too.

USpro also runs fine for me under Vista Ultimate 64.

Thanks for flexibility with the marker on the beat options :)

I am using 3.1.1 and it works OK but the operator doesn't. The operator forgot to select a duration for the "placement" setting. The operator has been sufficiently punished. Massive blows to the ego, worldwide embarrasment, forced to watch 100 reruns of Larry Welk, drink black coffee without sugar for 10 weeks, and drink hot Coca Cola without ice.

Actually, it's not your fault. Ultimate S2 had very simple photo montage settings. But people asked if we could make it more powerful and we all know, "...with great power comes great responsibility!" (sorry, I couldn't resist). So I added the ability separate placement, duration, and transitions (overlap). This allows you to create montages with gaps so that photos appear at regular intervals in between video. I also made the default settings for US3 mimic US2 but if you start changing them you can get unexpected result. Just remember to set the duration to fit the placement and it will always make sure the duration extends from one event to the next.

Johnny

I had US Pro 4 as a tab in Vegas, but it disappeared when I installed the 4.0.1 update.

Clicking on View / Extensions / VASST UltimateS Pro 4 / UltimateS Pro 4 had no result.

I tried a fresh instal which uninstalled then reinstalled, but still can't open the plug-in.

I have noticed that occasionally Vegas will open an extension as a tiny little window in the upper left corner of the screen. Sometimes it's even buried behind another window. I don't have a reproducible test case to send to the Sony developers but Vegas is not respecting the window size that is returned to it. Look for a very tiny window in the corners of Vegas and see if you can expand it.

If that doesn't work, the Ultimate S Pro extensions is kept in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions

Where <userid> is your Windows userid. Try moving the UltimateS4V8.dll out of that folder. Then start Vegas so that it sees that it is gone. Then close Vegas and drag the UltimateS4V8.dll file back into that folder. Then start Vegas again. This should cause US Pro to be closed in Vegas until you use View / Extensions / VASST UltimateS Pro 4 / UltimateS Pro 4 to open it again. Hopefully it will open the same size as when it was first installed.

If this doesn't work, contact me via the ultimatesupport email at VASST and we'll work on a few more things together.

Thank you - Johnny - you were spot on - the tiniest window possible was there in the top left hand corner - it was hard to get hold of, but all is now well and back in place.
Cheers
Peter

edit: In case anyone else has the same situation, here's how the top left corner of Vegas looked:

Flawless install here - many thanks Johnny. Scroll bars are "spot on."

JR,

Tell me more about "Adding Markers to the Beat". Currently I tap the M key to the beat of the music, and being musically challenged it usually takes me several attempts before I get it right. Does this somehow automate this?

I looked for info about this on the Vasst site but didn't find anything.

Yes. Create Markers on the Beat uses the project Beats-Per-Minute property to determine where the markers should be placed. Press Alt+ENTER in Vegas to bring up the Project Properties window and select the Ruler tab. Then set the Beats per Minute for the project. Create Markers on the Beat will use this BPM to drop markers for the duration of the audio you select.

The "every [1] beat(s)" option allows you to skip beats. For example, if you want to place markers at the down-beat of each measure in 4/4 time, you would set the beat to [4] and it will drop a marker on every 4th beat.

Another option that will help you in Vegas is in Options | Preferences | Audio. If you check [x] Import audio at project tempo, Vegas will adjust the tempo of your audio to match what you have set in the project. This must be set BEFORE you add the audio. It will not adjust any existing audio in the project.

It's documented in the User's Guide. I'm in the process of creating free video tutorials for all of Ultimate S Pro so you can see it in action and learn how to use it.

Thanks JR!

Regarding your comment about Vegas adjusting tempo of my audio, I assume this only applies to Acid loops, and not to wav files I have ripped - correct?

Recall I am musically challenged. Is there any way for me to (automatically or otherwise) determine what the tempo of a wav or mp3 is? Seems I would need to know that before I could make use of this neat Ultimate S Pro "Create Markers on Beat" feature.

That's correct, Vegas will only change the tempo of files that are ACIDized. For example, all of the royalty free TrakPak music that VASST sells has this ACID information it.

> Is there any way for me to (automatically or otherwise) determine what the tempo of a wav or mp3 is?

Sure. Music is mathematical. The formula to determine beats per minute in common time (4/4) is:

240 / seconds for one measure = BPM

So count how many measures there are in the song, divide the length of the song by that number and drop it into the formula. In other words:

240 / (length of song / # of measures) = BPM

You could also use ACID to beatmap the file. This will add the information that Vegas needs to determine the BPM. Of course, all of this requires that the song be at a constant tempo. Any live recording where the tempo drifts will require manual tweaking of markers.
