OT - VASST Really Put On A Show!

Maybe you'll catch it on FOX News. Spot and Mannie orchestrated an international media event today in Tooele, UT at Skydive Utah (http://www.skydiveutah.com/). They filmed Utah's first sky diving marriage and it was covered by every news affiliate in the state and has already been picked up by FOX international. Seven HD cam's were rolling (besides the media coverage) including 3 in the air (two on helmet's, one in the plane, and 4 on the ground. Was lucky enough to run one of the Z1's (great cam) on the ground and learned much in the experience. Leave it to VASST to get the local, national, and international spotlight shining on a local drop zone in Tooele, UT. What a day! Have seen some of the footage and it is fabulous. Watch for it on FOX news. Can't wait to see the edit. Thanks guys, I'll remember this one.

Wow! I hope I catch that. If anyone has the time/day fo when it airs, please post it.

Suddenly my evening I spent filming the waves, sea gulls, and my girlfirend on the beach with my new little toy (HC3) doesn't seem so impressive. :o)

Sounds like it was a fun day at work for the VASST crew and friends. It's good to see they get out of the studio a lot. Fresh air is good! Congrats on all the coverage you got too. Derek

Speaking of skydiving, a few months ago I met Glenn Singleman, funny thing is I didn't know who he was at the time. He'd just got from a few weeks underwater with 'James' looking at 'Titanic', even that didn't register. Later I found out who 'James' was and 'Titanic' wasn't the movie but the real deal a few Kms underwater.
The thing I was mostly talking to Glenn about was how to mount a HD camera on a helmet, well he's recently done the jump that he wanted it for and has broken his own world record (and no bones).

Dhill,
From what I'm hearing, this skydive will be featured on a show called Wild Weddings or something like that. As for when it airs, I can't be sure. We are hearing it today on all of the news casts (radio and TV) and I'm sure it's in the papers too. Yes, great day for video. I didn't mention that all of the cam's were Sony HDV's. Mannie and Spot also catered the wedding on the ground (these guys are multi-talented) to include a reception with cake cutting and toasts. Fox news did a live feed from the reception (in the hangar) for the local news. Everything went off without a hitch. Footage was downloaded (using Vegas of course) from the helmet cams on the spot (no pun intended) and DVD's passed out to the local media for use on their news reports. Fox took it right to their on location truck and uploaded it to their studios. Pretty cool.

Bob,
Howdy mate. Sounds like you had a cool experience. Couldn't get that link to work however. By the way, on your next trip to the mainland, why not swing by Skydive Utah? I bet Spot would love to get you and the wifey on a tandem jump. He'll be camera jump certified soon and could shoot the whole experience. You up for it mate? :-)

Glenn Singleman is an icon in the world of BASE. Amazing cat.
We did complete the segment shoot that Randy refers to, finishing late last night.
3 Sony Z1's, 4 A1us, with superwide (.175 prototype and .3 lenses) on the aerial cams, all mounted on Bonehead flattops. We tried a variety of cams, but given our jump time, this was the best way to fly. Was hoping to use the overcrank of the HVX that we've used on motoX, but doesn't work out, due to recording time. Sorta hard to exchange P2 cards at 140 miles vertical, too. :-) The overcrank is great for those very sexy slo-mo's. The Z1 is too heavy for a standard helmet without a safety cradle, and the HC3 wasn't quite there in terms of quality. The A1's worked out wonderfully. We'll post footage in a couple days, other deadlines to meet today.

DSE: you jumped too? You got a bigger set than I do my friend. Glad everything went well for all involved.

Yes, Patrick, I skydive too. I'll be in your area in the fall, doing some shooting at Deland, just up the way from you.

Well if you have some free time, we should get together. At least let me buy you some dinner for all the help you have given to me and the forum.

here is a clicky. You might need to disable your popup blocker, because it's on CNN and they popup the vid pages.

If that link doesn't work, here's another one: http://www.cnn.com/video/partners/clickability/index.html?url=/video/offbeat/2006/06/20/walker.ut.skydive.wedding.ksl
Hit the rewind button before you hit play and it should work.
