hot off the Press:

(Nov. 04, 2003) -- Avid has announced a price drop for its Xpress DV non-linear editing system. The price drop will coincide with the release of a new version of the software, which is available for preorder now and is expected to ship Nov. 15. The new version, which supports Mac OS X and Windows, is selling for $695.

(Not sure I'd want to try the software version; Media Composer is cumbersome enough!)

Composer is far more cumbersome than DVX is, but at any price, Sony's tools are pushing the envelope. Kinda funny. The OSX version doesn't work too well at this point, loads of problems.

It is funny! Some people HATE the interface but the lucky few who give it a sincere try (about a week) and read the help files- learn the MANY ADVANTAGES Vegas has. I have done testing of every DV editor out there and they are WAY behind - BLAD 2.2, AVID Xpress, Mediastudio Pro, Premiere Pro, Edition 5... All seem to offer something unique but non offer the complete STABLE intutitive interface that SHINES! I feel bad for those stuburn ones... all we need is a bunch of software codecs and for Sony to create some type of diverse in out box... and the nesting which we all know is being developed as we speak - the unique VEGAS WAY Im sure!

THEN WORLD DOMINATION!

Someone i'm doing some work for uses Avid (not sure which one, but he outputs his entire show realtime to DVCPro). He came down to my main job last weekend to drop off some tapes for me and I showed him Vegas. He was VERY impressed: realtime surround sound output, realtime DV output, ability to modify the audio waveform when you change it, etc. What he was most impressed with is the ability to open up multiple copies of Vegas, which he can't do in Avid. Now he plans to buy a copy of the program so he can rough out his show at home!
