OT: video playback software for live event

I'm working on a project with my church. We're kicking off a high energy kids environment where there's tons of video and audio playback needs.

Are you familiar with any product that would fit the need? Ideally it would playback many formats of audio or video, and the important part: it needs to gracefully hop to the next item clicked (cross fade, mix audio). So during the performance if they hot click another element, it doesn't die and take a second to start back up. Know of anything that would do this well?

In the main adult auditorium they use a mac product (pro video presenter) that does just this...well. We have a PC in the kids area and are trying to stay away from the dark side (spending $$ on a new machine and another mac). Renewed Vision is the site for the mac software...it's fantastic.

And is there a source you know of for really cool edgy countdowns? Instead of spending dozens of hours trying to create a cool 10 second to 1 countdown...there's probably something out there for purchase. Know of anything?

For those that want we're aiming for ... click kids stuf and then click "last kidstuf" then click 2005/2006 highlights. This is not my church, it's Northpoint near Atlanta...: an amazing church on so many levels. Their video plant has 50+ terabytes to serve their 15,000 people in the congregation. They reach the kids by getting on their level...and they compete by aiming for nickelodeon instead of the church down the street. It's unbelievable to see their commitment and success.

Thank you very much for any help. Sean

Well there is Watchout from Dataton, very cool stuff but it might be overkill for what your doing - worth taking a look though:

Check out Easy Worship. It's a great program with an easy to learn and use interface.

We use Song Show Plus in our church. It's very easy to run and the newest version handles most anything you throw at it. Unfortunately it doesn't do crossfades from one media file to another on the fly, but you can set them up in advance. It does excel at letting you choose just about anything from your hard drive to show next at a moment's notice though, whether it's video, audio, powerpoint, or stills.

I have a bunch of off-the-wall countdowns in my online store. They're all 10 to 0 shorts. I'm also working on a set of longer 6 minute countdowns that are good for lead-ins to the start of the service. They're not in the store yet, but should be there soon.

thanks very much for the help. We have media shout in the main auditorium and it's a good product. I also tried Easy Worship and liked that as well. Easy worship has a site license for under $400 so I think that's the way we'll go. We tried the fully functioning demo last Sunday and it did a nice job of mixing videos on the fly, and playing sound effects or bumper beds with cross fades...so I think we have a winner.

Now if only there was a spare two cameras and an mx70 to make the live camera stuff look great!
