OT: Video production Thanksgiving shout-outs

As we near Thanksgiving, I thought it would be a nice thought to give shout-outs, words of thanks, to those who've been helpful in using Vegas and in video production in general...

First I have to sincerely thank Douglas Spotted Eagle for the terrific work on his DVD tutorials; I got the V4 ones over a year ago, and thanks to what he taught me in them, my first video DVD production did nearly $288,000 in sales (253K in profit!) in it's first year.

It would've taken me much longer, and I wouldn't have made the money this quickly, and have gained the life skill to succeed at it, if I hadn't learned from DSE/Spot's DVDs, so a sincere thanks to him.

And of course, the fact that he freely posts his expertise here and shares with so many of us, is something I'm genuinely grateful for, as his schedule is likely very full. So a big shout-out, thx Douglas.

Truly a class act. Someone I'd like to be more like.

Second, to all of you who've made this the forum it is with terrific posts: coursedesign, chienworks, grazie, frigidndediting, and everyone else, thanks...

And of course the other folks who've created great instructional how-to videos, scripts and the rest of the resources, thanks very much.

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks to those who've helped us newbies get the hang of NLE w/Vegas on the forum, I'd like to say a sincere word of thanks to you all!

And how about everyone else? Whom/what are You most thankful for, in the NLE world, and/or Vegas forum here?

I was totally new to editing about a year-and-a-half ago. This (and filming) was a big, scary career change, so for the first month I spent at least 12 hours/day in front of the computer, learning entirely on my own, from the manual. I don't know why it took so long to discover the user Forum, on-line tutorials and Spot's training books and DVD sets, which have since become invaluable.

This summer, my Vegas highlight was attending Spot's Toronto workshop on advanced editing techniques. I left there "vastly" more knowledgeable with regards to the subject matter, but another thing stood out --- DSE is one of the busiest people on the planet - yet he always takes the time to answer complex tehcnical questions and often goes above-and-beyond to help someone. At the workshop I found him to be friendly, pleasant, professional, helpful, very calm and thorough, humorous and a great instructor!! That, and his books and training DVD's, gives DSE my vote for being the most helpful to me personally, thus a big THANKS is in order!

That said, I must acknowledge the caliber of help and advice I've gotten from many knowledgeable forum members. They come to my rescue on a regular basis and life could well be pure misery without this resource. Thanks also for answering what I, as a newcomer, suppose might be considered a "stupid question", ( from the perspective of someone who has advanced tech/editing skills ) straightforwardly and without innuendos.

Congrats on your tremendous success and a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

My apologies for any I've forgetten to mention, there's many ...!

Like Edward Troxel, jetdv.com , he's gone above and beyond, even made a custom script to help me with multi cam edits and more..

main thing is, I'm very grateful to all who've been helpful as I've learned how to use Vegas to make great video!

Happy Thanksgiving to all (even if you don't celebrate the specific day in your particular corner of the planet I hope you are all well and have much to be thankful for)!

I'm thankful for many things....mostly just thankful to still be around. Also thankful for the new friends I've made via this forum.

OK enough touchy feely stuff....bring on the bird!

PS> Howz that new monitor working out Ken?

it's great!! I'll take a digcam screencap sometime and post it .. having the dell in the middle with two lcds, for 3 total, is terrific..

highly recommend the dell widescreen, particularly useful for linear timeline based editing, like midi sequencing/cakewalk/vegas etc..

I'd like to thanks DSE in particular - I've not been here long and only posted two questions but DSE was the first to respond in both cases.

But I'd also like to thank everyone else too; reading the posts has given me ideas, taught me things I'll certainly need to know and almost as certainly will help me avoid some common problems.

Thanks, all.

Ken, I meant to ask you - what was the subject of your first successful DVD?

www.tradingvideos.com - stock trading ... used vegas to author all 7 DVDs, plus the flash sitefomercial.com on the site too
