What camcorder do you recommend me and why ? I know that the Sony VX2000 is awesome and it has a lot of good reviews but how does it compare to the Canon GL2 (XM-2 in Europe) and the new (revolutionary ??) Panasonic 24p miniDV camcorder ?
I would personnaly get the new panasonic camera for several reasons.
The GL2 is actually a GL1 with manual control over audio, however, there are no XLR inputs which makes the camera pointless to me.
The new panasonic camera is a killer. Only the fact that it can record 24p makes it worth buying. Then you get 2 independant XLR inputs with 48v power, with VU meters on the LCD and in the viewfinder, audio wise it's the nicest miniDV cam I have seen. You also get optical stabilization (way superior to digital). also, it features Zoom, focus and aperture rings which is pretty rare for a prosumer cam.
All in all this cam is made to please everyone. The cinematographer will like it because it's 24p, the journalist and event recorder will like it because it can also do 60i and has great audio features.
And this Pana 24p compared with the VX2000 ? Is the VX2000 still the king ? Sony seems unbeatable. Do you know if the Sony PD170 (?) or the VX3000 will be released soon ? If Pana 24p rocks, Sony will release the VX3000 (or whatever it will be called) , in my opinion, will be better than Panasonic or Canon. Let's remember:
high end prosumer:
Sony PD150 and VX2000 competes with Canon XL1s (most of the people agree that PD150 is better than the other candidates)
prosumer level:
Sony TRV900 of TRV950, slighly better than Canon GL1.
>>>The GL2 is actually a GL1 with manual control over audio, however, there are no XLR inputs which makes the camera pointless to me.
what makes you say that? it looks like there are a lot more major improvements over the GL1 than just the manual audio controls and external level meters. the most significant is the huge resolution boost in the CCDs IMO. you can get an attachment for it if you need XLR inputs (useless to me).
they still gave it a crappy color viewfinder instead of a hi-res B&W, but other than that it looks like a killer camera for the price. the GL2 is basically the GL1 with almost everything that people complained about fixed.
