Probably (speculation) means that instead of simple text from the NLE you could make a psd file with text that has color gradients, shadows, etc.

I expect (and hope) it means you can put something like a lower third graphic behind subtitles in a DVD. The big advantage of this is you can turn it on or off in the DVD menus, which you can't do with a graphic you encode into the video stream.

If I'm right, this will be a huge help for a Spanish-language project I'm working on now. I've got the English translations into the DVD as subtitles, but they're often hard to read. (Some of our intended audience is fluent in Spanish, and won't need the subtitles.) If I could put a nice dark bar behind the letters, it would make them much more legible. I can't do this in DVDA3, so I'm stuck with either making the subtitles permanent or with a less-legible compromise.

I'm getting paid enough for this project that this feature alone will probably justify the upgrade price for me!

But you can!!
I just did this in DVDA last week.
On your subtitle track, select any event. Then select "Edit Text". You'll see an 'O' beside the B(old) & I(talic) icons. It's defaulted to being highlighted. Click it again to deselect it and you'll have your transparent background. Adjustments to it (transparency, outline, etc.) are made in Color set 4. HTH.

These are cells that can be inserted into the DVD. They will be limited to the
color depth of the current buttons but because they can be placed on the timeline
you should be able to do simple animations such as a flock of birds flying
across the screen!

This is nothing new to DVD's see the book "DVD Demystified" just new to
DVDA.

Awesome! I'm an idiot.

Thank you, thank you, for the tip!

Now you need something else to justify the upgrade. ;-)

Oh, I'm sure I'll find something!

You're not an idiot, just someone who discovered that there was a feature you didn't know about. Now you do.
I don't think a week goes by that I don't discover another trick/feature/time saving tip here that causes me to slap myself and say "DOH" :-)
