OT: What's happened to Vimeo? YT now Better?

I've been a subscriber to Vimeo for awhile now and all has been well for distributing my family videos. Recently, however, the quality has been terrible, especially during transitions. Here is an example comparing YouTube to Vimeo via split screen. I brought the rendered YouTube and Vimeo files back into Vegas, did the masking, re-rendered and uploaded to YT. In particular, look for the text fade in and also the cross fade from the graphics to photo, which is just dreadful.

For anyone interested in the original, YT rendered, and Vimeo rendered files, here is the dropbox link.

All renders from Vegas were via Vegas2Handbrake and Handbrake settings pretty much followed those recommended in the "tutorial", except for a higher bit rate and 2 pass encoding. In comparing the YT and Vimeo rendered files, the one feature is that YT has about double the bit-rate. I later re-rendered the files with a much higher bit rate (22 Mb/s) and the results were pretty much the same--very little increase in the file sizes from YT or Vimeo.

The bottom line is that YT seems to be doing a much better job and as a bonus, it doesn't cost anything. Or perhaps, I'm doing something wrong. If so, please advise.
