OT: Where's the version number?

Maybe i'm being a little extra picky, but .... i just got my boxed copy Movie Studio 3. I can't find the version number printed anywhere. It's not on the box, the manual, the registration card, or even on the CD! There really isn't anything to distinguish the package from Version 2. Is the package design division allergic to version numbers? OK, i'm not so worried about this for myself because i ordered the box directly from the website. However, it concerns me that people shopping elsewhere might be getting an older version by mistake and not even know it until they've installed it. Heck, the folks selling it on ebay may not even know what version they're selling; indeed might not even know that there are different versions.

Come on now ... how hard could it be to print a "3" on the box?

youre right.. I dont see it anywhere on the box, manual, or cd....

the only place is the ABOUT section under HELP in the actual application.

very odd...

When I picked up my copy, the only way I could tell it was the right product was by comparing the picture of the box to the web site.

I do not see a version number on my boxed copy either (ver 3). Worse, there is a logo for "pc Mag editors choice", which has a subscript of version 2.0!!! Could be very confusing... but from Son's perspective, it could be less expensive to produce a single package that spans multiple versions. If this is the case, I would think they would change the packaging for a major release vs. a maintenance upgrade.

I'm noticing the same thing with screenblast musicstudio. I've picked up a few of these on ebay recently, mostly to get more licenses for SIREN than for any other reason. The only indication anywhere on the packaging of a version number is a screenshot showing "Screenblast ACID Deluxe 2.0" in the title bar. I think the package contains ACID Music 3.0 and i know that the SIREN version is 2.0. All four packages i bought look identical. Still though, it seems like it would be common courtesy to identify the version number more clearly.

I can't believe it's a bait-n-switch tactic. Historically SonicFoundry was always very generous in giving away free or nearly free upgrades to those who had purchased an older version after the new version was out, so they obviously weren't trying to trick people into spending more money. Maybe SONY/screenblast feels differently about the matter.

stickers dont cost that much... print generic boxes with a sticker overlay.
