OT: XL1 users PLEASE HELP

Randy Brown wrote on 11/3/2002, 9:22 AM
I am trying to get an analogue tape from a VCR onto a DV tape (or bypass straight to VV3) by hooking up RCAs to the XL1, but when I push record on the XL1 I just get a blank screen on playback. Surely it has this capability but I've been all through the XL1 manual and it doesn't seem to be addressed. Please help.
TIA,
Randy

Sorry if I'm being a pest but...I have since discovered that if the firewire is not hooked up, the XL1 displays "check DV connection" so apparently when I was recording a blank screen it was from the firewire (running to my 1394)and is not even recognizing the RCA and/or the S-video connection as an input. I have also downloaded the manual for the XL1-*S* hoping that the newer manual may cover this. It does, and states to hook up just as I have it. The jacks definitely work for output (hooked to a TV) so I'm hoping someone can suggest a switch or menu selection to toggle that the manual doesn't cover???
TIA,
Randy

I hate to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure the XL-1 does not record from its component connections. My friend has an XL-1 and we ended up using my ADVC-100 to get clips from VHS tapes into Vegas.

The original XL1 does not have analog inputs for video (you can actually record sound through the RCA inputs in Camera mode, but not VCR mode). The new XL1s does have analog inputs for video and audio in VCR mode.

Thanks guys...that is disappointing but at least I can stop pulling my hair out now wondering what I'm doing wrong or if the camera is defective.
Thanks again,
Randy
