So, is it that no-one knows or that everyone is sick of hearing "?'s" about Z1's and FX1's and DVX's and PD170's etc...

Any insight would be nice, thanks.

The dollar is down relative to the yen by 8-10% compared to last summer. Maybe it's that.

The FX1 is $3299 at B&H. The $4499 price is for a special "B&H Kit" that includes Canopus Edius software.

The Z1 was originally announced in the press release as being $4900 MSRP. Sony later corrected that, saying they accidentally released the $4900 figure, which is the M.A.P., not the MSRP. The MSRP is $5946.

B&H is listing the Z1 at $4900.

We were notified by our Sony dealer that the price for the Z1 had gone up around AUD 2000. Add to that the nearly $1000 WA lens and it's starting to be a pretty expensive bit of kit. We're still buying 4.
The silliest bit of gear Sonly is trying to sell is the shoulder brace thingy for the camera, they've got to be joking when you can buy a more flexible unit from Millede for much less.

Bob, I've been shooting the Z1 with the Birn/Sawyer Image 2000, and it's really nice. A little more comfortable than the Sony kit, and infinitely more adjustable, for about 75% of the Sony cost. You might want to check it out. Scary thing about the WA lens though....it holds focus really well all the way through.

Bob -- when you say the Z1 has gone up AUD $2000... what are you saying the final price is in Australian dollars? The Sony US site is still listing it at $5946 MSRP, which would make it about $7600 AUD. B&H's proposed price of $4900 would equate to about $6300 AUD. Are these prices comparable to what you're being told in Australia?

Nope,
we're looking at around AUD 9,000 I believe. I'll check that officially tomorrow.

The 2000 does look much better than the Sony offering, quite a few options available really from cheap to rather expensive, don't quite see why Sony spent money engineering their offering.
