OTish: A little inspiration

I'm a bit late watching this movie but I popped in "Open Water" tonight. I'd been wanting to see it just because it was DV and they used basically the same camera I have (PD150 at the time they filmed). Really neat to see what can be done with no crew and DV cams. The bonus features on the DVD were really interesting as they show how the film was made over 2.5 years and how it made it's way to Sundance etc etc. It cracked me up when Kentis mentioned submitting it to a small festival in the Hamptons for feedback. It wasn't really the final cut but he thought it would be under the radar at the small festival. Turned out Variety was there and reviewed it.....he almost stroked out.

This movie was a bare bones production. Kentis and his wife were the crew - literally. They had never used DV and didn't even have an NLE when he started. Was really wild to see them using 2x4s and modified rubbermaid tubs for gear......They show Kentis editing the movie on FCP but we all know if he did it on FCP it can be done with Vegas ;-)

Anyway, if you haven't watched the DVD, the "making o"f bonus section is worth the rental fee for a bit of "it can be done" inspiration.
