OTish - problem installing SF8

I haven't received any replies to this question in the Sound Forge forum, so am posting here.

I am trying to install the boxed retail version of Sound Forge 8. I get as far as specifying a non-default install directory (F:\Media Apps\Sony\Sound Forge 8), then an error box pops up that says: "The selected shared components folder is invalid. It is in use by a conflicting Sonic Foundry product." and then shows the path to the existing folder for shared plugins (F:\Medial Apps\Sony\Shared Plug-ins). I cannot continue the install from that point, the only option is to cancel or back up. ( I do not get a chance to specify a shared plugins folder during the SF8 install.)

I have Vegas 6, Vegas 8, DVDA 4.5 and Sound Forge 7 installed on the PC (running Windows XP with all updates). I have never installed a Sonic Foundry product on the PC. The Sony apps are installed to F:\Media Apps\Sony\Vegas 6 etc. My shared plugins folder for all existing installs is F:\Medial Apps\Sony\Shared Plug-ins.

I then tried installing SF8 to the default install directory (C:\Program Files\Sony\Sound Forge 8). That install went OK, but after online registration (also successful), when I go to open media files, SF8 does not show .wav files rendered from Vegas or recorded on a Zoom H2 when file type of "all supported media" is selected, and rejects the files as an unsupported file type when they are dropped on the SF8 workspace from Windows Explorer. It does recognize MP3s, when an MP3 is on the timeline, the render option is greyed out, and the only save option seems to be the SF8 project file type (which I assume is the equivalent of a .veg file). So something is broken with the install.

The install is of the latest version on the Sony website (8.0 d). I'm totally stumped by this.

Anyone tell me what's going on? Thanks, all.
