OTish: What would you charge for custom train

FrigidNDEditing wrote on 10/19/2006, 11:05 PM
I have a church who wants me to come out and do a training weedend with their staff, not only a Vegas training, but a lighting/video/editing weekend for their tech folk. Any Ideas as to what I should charge for something like this? Considering that A, I have no name in this type of business, and B, Churches are CHEAP!!! :P I would expect that considering that it's a relatively small church they wouldn't be able to pay much. It's just a couple hours away from where I am so travel is minimal. Anyway, Thanks for the Ideas/Info.

I remember the first time I quoted a 2-day weekend seminar at five grand (this was many years ago too), and the responsible client manager almost coughed up his intestines.

"Five grand for two days? Nooo wayyyy!!!!!"

I calmly responded, "Of course not." "It's two weeks of prep work + materials + transportation + equipment, plus, oh yes, me working full tilt that weekend we were talking about."

They paid, up front.

Now with churches there is sometimes a tendency to start with, "Those who work for us get their reward in heaven."

There are plenty of serious Bible quotes to counter that with, but it's also a matter of what you think is reasonable.

You are doing real work, and it is absolutely a sin to not pay decent wages for that, not just for the weekend but also for the preparation you need to put in to make sure they get a good training.

I can hold my own in oposition to the "comp it" attitude. These folks are friends of mine, and they're not gonna be idiots about it.

I've considered doing it on the cheap simply because I would kinda guinnypig em, however I have zero doubt of my ability to do this, and well.

Fridge, never done any training sessions but do know they aint cheap,, buddy of mine gets 500.00 an hour for some kind of rah rah corporate training he does,, not saying you should charge that.
but iffin it were me I would I would look at 2 ways.
1. total number of hours I am going to spend, including all prep, multiply by my hourly shooting or editing charge (slightly less than 500 .00 :) )
2. check my fianances and see if i need a nonprofit tax right off and do it as a donation (after consulting my lawyer )

Good luck

Genesis 30:27-29 "Name your wages, and I will pay them."

Alot depends on how many will attend. Figure about $10-$20 per person for materials. (DVD, printed outline, equipment list, etc) $10 for lunches if at your
expense. Rentals of projectors, extra cameras, It all adds up so be honest and
let them know how much it will cost.

I attended a seminar on improving sound for services was $75 half day.
