Output Fader: Only for your computer speakers?

I was using the output fader control to boost the volume on some bad sound takes to decide which ones to edit/boost in audacity. Then, I thought, am I screwing something up by just using this for upping the volume on my computer speakers? Does the setting affect the eventual rendered output? If so, what is the normal value? I will reset it before I render. Thanks in advance.

OK, new to Vegas from Final Cut, I was forgetting the Vegas used to be an audio editor meme. So, I’m guessing that the Output Fader is like the Master Output Slider on the old BEHRINGERs that I used to use to mix sound for theatre plays. The Fader is my LAST chance to adjust the TOTAL sound output of the video sequence. I adjust each event individually as needed like I would the different inputs on the mixer. So, by that logic, I just use it to double check that my final sound edit levels don’t clip. By that logic, whatever final level comes out via this output will be the final output in whatever codec I render into.

Please confirm this if you can so I can adjust my best practices accordingly. And, as always: Thanks in advance.

You are correct. Note that Vegas also has a fader for Preview and the mixer panel has a Dim control / icon.
I'm lucky in that I have an external audio box, M-Audio Firewire-410. It has it's own mixer panel so I can control the level of the signal going to the monitors and the headphones independantly of what's happening in Vegas.
I haven't tried this but I see no reason why you couldn't create a monitor buss and route the master to that which would give you control of your speakers without changing the final render if you forgot to reset the fader to unity.

It does pay to get to know Vegas's audio capabilites, they're the reason I bought Vegas almost a decade ago and why I persist with it.
