I'll put a plug in here (pun intended) for Ozone. I've been using Ozone 2 and absolutely worship it. If you're looking for an all-in-on audio plug in, go for Ozone. It is amazing. I'm sure I'll get version 3.
I got the email annoucing Ozone 3 and was coming to this forum to ask...
What is the difference between Ozone 3 and the plugins included with Vegas or Sound Forge? If some of you can provide a verbal description of the improvements, that would be cool.
Or if listing the improvements is diffucult, then try to list the problems that are in the Vegas or Sound Forge eqivalents.
The biggest difference would be in quality hands down. Remember that the plugins you get from Vegas/SF7 are good but they are in no way in the same arena as Ozone,waves,etc...These are companies that specialize at doing one thing and one thing only...Audio plugins. The R&D that goes into these plugins far surpasses[spelling?] anything that sofo/sony guys could put time into.
You could definitely get by with the stock plugins. But for a better result download the demo and do a a/b comparison of the EQ's,compressors,etc...
Some things that I like about the new Ozone 3:
1)I can automate the "bypass" function. Now I can the plugin turn on/off around any events on the timeline to save cpu power.
2) There are a ton of preset to help you through getting started with a mix/audio part.
3)Quality[can't stress this enough].
4)Check out these cool improvements:http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/features.html
5)You can run Ozone with any number of modules. ie:only the EQ+compressor, just the loudness maximizer,etc...Plus reorder the modules to fit your needs.[to a point]
6)Lots of ways to save on cpu usage with this plugin.
I highly recommend getting this product not only for the quality of the plugin but by the way that izotope listens to the needs of their customers and delivers a stable product again and again. A company like this deserves our support.
To me, what really sets Ozone apart from the stock plugs in Vegas, Soundforgre, and Cakewalk is the multi-bands in Ozone's compressor and several other modules. THe first project I used Ozone 2 on was some band recordings made direct to the video camera (ie, worst case scenario). With Ozone I was able to zero in on the offending frequencies and cut/boost 4 bands independently.
There are other audio plug-ins with multi-band (like Waves I gather), but Ozone is only $199 and gives you a complete set of audio tools. No dongle or PACE protection either.
It's just quality. Period. Ozone is one of two indispensable tools in my 'rack' of plugs. 64 bit architecture with the way they've written their emulators, super high end control. It's all about the audio.
Frankly, this tool isn't for everyone. It's only for those that have discriminating taste and an interest in having the best sound possible.
If you previously had Ozone 2 and install Ozone 3 it shows up as Ozone 2 in the Vegas Plug in chooser. I got a response from tech support this Saturday afternoon(!) and asked me to look closer. Sure enough it says Ozone 3 in the lower right corner and I see all the new stuff. He explained that this was to allow us to keep our settings in existing projects which might get lost if the name changed.
