PAL or NTSC

Hi,

I am in a PAL region so my Lumix shipped with the system frequency at 50 Hz, but I can set it to NTSC allowing me to shoot 4k at 30fps instead of only 25fps.

Would this be a problem nowadays to shoot footage at 30p in a PAL region, since all the usage is mostly internet or modern TV's with high refresh rates? (except maybe when filming indoors in artificial light that interferes with the higher frequency)

Maybe if I make a music video and sent it to a TV station? I guess they want 25p?

What happens if I render 30p footage into a 25p movie?

Hey Dude:

I always consider my desired delivery and try to shoot in the format that is closest to that format. In my case I'm in NTSC land and my camera does a couple flavors of NTSC.

I have found the renders straight from Vegas look best when I don't change the frame rate during the render. Of course there are good/better/best methods that use external tools and give the users greater control over the render.

Good luck with your project.

My problem is that the camera can do 4k only in 24, 25 or 30 fps, not in 50fps for my PAL region. When I use 25fps, I see a wild stobing effect that makes it hard to watch for me, I posted about that yesterday. Even though most people wouldnt notice that as good as I do, I'm pretty reluctant to use that for anything other than fixed position shots.

But if I could use 30fps for some steadycam shots or slider footage, that will look way better to me, my phone can film in 4k at 30fps and this is acceptable to my eyes. :)

But the only thing I'm not sure of is this could become a problem in post production...

If it is for yourself then shoot in 30p for best quality. If it is for a PAL TV station they will likely want it in 50i, but they won't want 4k.
