pan and crop bug?

I've got a VV3 project that includes a very large image that I'm panning from left to right. The problem I'm having is with the interpolation curve. I want the pan to be even from one side of the photo to the other, so I right clicked on both keyframes and selected Linear. However, the resulting pan is identical to the Smooth curve. It starts slow, speeds up a bit, then eases in to the destination point. I'm only using 2 keyframes.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Hi, you might be using the edge of the pan box and not the center dot-thing for your pan starting point.

I regularly pan and crop really wide files (2560x233) for title sequences. When I first started using VV it didn't have a really useful text tool (imho). The manual actually said make your titles in photoshop and use pan and crop to make them scroll.

When I tried doing it I had the speed change you describe, regardless of keyframe settings.

What I was doing wrong was:
Setting a frame to match output aspect, and then lining its Left edge with the left edge of my graphic where I wanted the dolly to start. This put the center dot just a bit "inside" the edge of the video window.

Since the image is already in the frame, the pan doesn't appear to move until after the video rolls a bit, so I think the frame box is "marking-time" waiting to move, creating the speed change. Experimenting with the location I learned that it was the center dot and it solved the speed change for me.

The dot can also be moved all around, separate from the frame for very fast pans and neat effects and you don't need to use the keyframe speed settings.

I've never checked the manual for this but it has worked for me.

Hope this helps.

You should also crank the smoothness control to "0"

Smoothness= spatial interpolation, keyframe type= temporal interpolation

Thanks EPM,
That was the problem.
I didn't see that information anywhere in the manual...did I miss it?

Well, the Smoothness thing is mentioned on pg. 280...but the next revision of the manual will address this topic better. Thanks. :-)
