Pan/crop issues

Hi guys

Wanted to find out if anyone can help. I've did heaps of research but unable to find a solution to this issue I'm having.

I have Vegas pro 13 running on a surface book running Windows 10.

Just recently noticed that when creating a video and I want an instant zoom shot of a video clip, (like a close up of an object in a video) it seems to be panning in to the eventual object where before I could select crop/pan feature select the video clip I want a close up of and if I played the video back the instant close up would be how I want it.

Now if I choose this method I'm getting a gradual zoom in of the video clip which I don't want

Hopefully I make sense. Im still pretty new with Vegas learning all the features etc.

Cheers and much appreciated

In the lower left of the PanCrop window is an icon that looks like a keylock. Deselect that. That is the sync cursor which sets a keyframe where the cursor is positioned when you change any features in the pan/crop.

"...I want an instant zoom shot of a video clip, (like a close up of an object in a video)"

When the Pan/Crop cursor  is not synced to the main timeline, any change you make to Pan / Crop applies to the whole event.

To make a rapid change in the Pan / Crop view

When the Pan/Crop cursor  is synced to the main timeline, the preview changes continuously from one keyframe to the next. You need to set a keyframe at the point where you want to start a view. To hold that view, you set another keyframe on the timeline one frame before you want to change views. This is true if you haven't placed any other keyframes. If you have placed keyframes already, you can copy the starting keyframe and paste it one frame before the place you want the instantaneous zoom to take place. Then set your zoom keyframe. That zoom will stay in effect until the end of the clip if no other keyframes exits. To zoom out to the original, reverse the process.

Yes, the sync cursor syncs the preview window with the pan/crop window.

To get what you want, open the pan/crop window, drag the pan/crop cursor to the position where you want to zoom. Then zoom in as required.

Now right click the very first key frame that’s always at the event start, select “hold”.

It’s certainly a rariety i’m sure, usually the other way round, thanks John for all of the many instructive tips/tutorials.
