Panasonic Squeeze Mode to 16:9 in Vegas

VideJoe wrote on 1/10/2006, 1:57 PM
I have a Panasonic DVX102B (PAL), which comes with a Squeeze Mode for 16:9 viewing on a wide screen TV set.
But if I capture the footage to Vegas and select Vegas Project Properties to PAL DVD Wide Screen, I get a funny preview result. Nothing like 16:9 but very similar like ordinary 4:3 but with extra vertical black bars. I cannot make any sense of it.
What's going wrong here?

Not familiar with the squeeze mode, but this is what happens when you put a 4:3 clip into a 16:9 project. Try right-clicking the clip and settings its Properties to 16:9 and see if that fixes it.

Not much help since you obviously don't know what Panasonic Squeeze Mode is and how it should be handled within Vegas.
Thanks anyway.

I have some jvc cameras with squeeze mode which add horizontal black bars (not vertical). I don't use that mode b/c it is not true widescreen and just adds black bars and "squeezes" the video within those bars. I would recommend abandoning squeeze mode shoot in the native format of your camera.

Also, I would recommend being a little more gracious to those who are trying to help you as I know that I won't attempt to help you any further if you respond to me the way you responded to the previous post.

Right-click the preview window and select 'Simulate Device Aspect Ratio'

That works but it only does one clip at a time. There is a free script that matches the aspect ratio of all the clips to the project settings at once. This is what you need.

I don't think the aspect changes in squeeze mode. It is not made to be 16:9; so the aspect would not be 16:9. If his camera has the same squeeze mode my cameras do, then like I stated in my previous post, it just squeezes the footage and places black horizontal bars on the top and bottom of the footage. Maybe I misread his question?

Squeeze mode is anamorphic 16:9 or DV widescreen. Change your project properties to PAL Widescreen PAR 1.4... and everything should look ok.

Think I got it. Don't know why it suddenly worked since I tried all possible project settings before. Seems like a (temporary) capture issue.

Thank you all, Dries.
