Are you sure this isn't the fully functional - but only for 30 days - SE version (also found here: http://www.wondertouch.com/se_info.asp )?

I just ordered it online, I'm sure I could find it somewhere in a bookshop here but the few bucks I'd save I'd blow in time and travel. At least this way I know it will arrive, oneday!

I bought my copy in Richmond, Va. at a Barnes & Noble. Works great!!!

I got it here in Hammond, IN. $13+ for the magazine, but that's a pretty good bargain.

It is the *full* version of SE...a $99 value.

Also entitles you to a special upgrade price...

This looks like a very cool program!

If you think that is cool, wait till you try out the new version...ie v3! It is especially cool for distorting video footage, as you can have the particles take their colour from the background layer for displacement style effects....but way cooler. Also very nice for video artists is the function to use an alpha mask as the area to emit particles from, which is great for anything from text treatments made up of particles to burning characters (especially if u use an animated mask). Also, the use of forces adds a lot of realism to the usual use of PI...ie creating smoke, sparks, and real world effects to add over video/3d footage. Once you guys get hooked on the drug that PI is , I can heartily recommend upgrading!

Trying to buy this sort of stuff in Sydney, Australia can be difficult, I can understand it, there's so many similar magazines and by the time they get here they have to be sold at a pretty high price so the bookshops are loathe to carry them as people tend to look before they buy, if there's nothing worthwhile in it they don't buy and they're left with a loss.
Zendorf wrote on 8/18/2003, 11:37 PM
Hey farss, I am in Sydney as well, and yeah getting Digit or 3Dworld is always about 3 months behind which can be a bitch when they have limited time offers :/ The only way around this is a subscription I am afraid. The Borders at Nth Ryde used to stock both as air freighted editions (with a price to match)...they were usually within a month of release, but now they no longer seem to stock em :( At least I can still get Cinefex there!

I bought version 3 and it totally rocks haven't completely figured out all of the stuff you can do with it but it is very sweet. I especially like the super emitters those things are amazing. I created this video's fire effects in the second verse with it I think it is pretty good considering I had it for like two days, I bought it specifically for this effect.
Here is the link to the video for anybody who wants to check it out.

Shogo . . . I've got the video playing as I type this . . . It is just tooooo good! I think it is the "classical" piece playing in the background in contrast to the rap going on and on - that keeps the whole thing very absorbing..... yer know the chaps in this? Tell them thanks from London UK .. . .

". . . yer know what I'm sayin' . .? ."

Yea I am going to do another video for them soon, That was my first video so I hope to make this one much better. Though I really like their music they make most all of it they don't sample from other peoples music. They come up with some very catchy beats and hooks I really think they could do something if they get heard enough. Thanks for the comments.

When I save AVI's or still image sequence, the picture is all black or smudged. Does anyone else have this problem?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 8/19/2003, 12:37 PM
Hmm... I just closed and re-opened the program and it works fine now.

I can't find a bookstore here in Miami that carries it--DRAT!
TheHappyFriar wrote on 8/19/2003, 9:33 PM
Did you try Borders? According to the store locator on their web site (www.bordersbooks.com) there is 9 stores within 50 miles of Miami, including one in the city:

9205 S. Dixie Highway
Miami, FL 33156
Phone:305.665.8800

give them a call and see if they have a copy. they will reserve it for you too.

it's a cool program! :)

Excellent video with regard to design.

Quick question: What kind of Vegas video renderings did you have to use in ParticleIllusion ?

I see that video must be rendered as "uncompressed" to work, but the AVI background is jagged, with large "jags," and distorted. I am on the verge of buying it, however, this is the one feature that is delaying my decision.

Thanks a bunch!
shogo wrote on 8/20/2003, 12:26 AM
Well I think it has to do with my compression on DVD and as an .avi it looks very smooth. I would not use uncompressed video really slows it down, have you tried out the demo yet I would start there to see if does what you want it to do though I couldn't imagine that it wouldn't.
kentwolf wrote on 8/20/2003, 12:46 AM
I believe I got it all worked out.

Video driver needed updating...

Thanks!

I went to DIGIT.com and ordered the issue 64 off their "back issues" page. (#65 is out now.) DGrob They took VISA, although I don't know how much I spent given it's priced in pounds and ounces. :)

I did the same thing (ordered off website with CC) and I think with the current exchange rate it is about $15 or $16.
