Paste Attributes for Buttons Broken?

Greenlaw wrote on 1/23/2010, 12:19 AM
Hi,

I'm using DVD-A 5.0b and I'm having trouble getting the Paste Attributes command to work properly. When I copy a button with a custom image, mask, highlight mask, and mask mapping, and then paste the button frame attributes to another button, the only attribute that carries over is the media mask; all other attributes remain default. Is anybody else experiencing this?

Right now I'm having to set all my buttons manually, which is a bit of a pain. Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

Might not be the answer you need, but I've found that with buttons, you can only paste one attribute at a time. So, try going back to 'paste attributes' again for each attribute. (Size, frame, position, etc)

This might not help in your situation, but you can create one button and then copy it, then change just what needs to be changed.

Are you using a different color for this page's button highlight?

Some colors (like white) don't work as well as others.

Arthur.S,

Thanks for the info. Anyway, that's basically the problem I'm running into. It looks like only one attribute is being pasted and all others are being ignored, which, in my opinion, completely defeats the purpose of having a Paste Attributes command.

I was hoping this feature worked as described in the manual because I had about 16 buttons set up on a page and I decided to change the button image/masks/highlight artwork. I should be able to just change one button, copy the frame attributes, and then paste these frame attributes to all the rest, either individually or as a group, but it's just not doing that. I had to change each image and associated mask in all 16 buttons individually, one attribute at a time. Ugh! I guess I better not decide to change the button artwork again. :p

(Actually, next time I will just overwrite the art and keep the same file names; any other attributes will still need to be set or pasted manually and individually though.)

Oh, well...hope this feature is fixed in the next update.

For what it's worth, I have to agree with you that Paste Attributes doesn't seem to work as well/the same way as it did in previous versions of DVD-A. Initially, I assumed that I was doing something differently, or had forgotten something, but your post makes me think that something has changed. It's an annoyance to have to take the extra steps, but it's not a jobstopper.

I, too, hope that this is addressed in an update.

Lots of good things in DVDA - and lots of others that just make you grit your teeth in frustration (see my button highlight thread). Haven't found anything to replace it yet though!
