Make a timeline selection and Vegas will stop at the end of the selection. If you turn on looping, Vegas will loop at the end of the selection. If you place markers on the timeline you can double-click the top of the timeline between the markers and Vegas will make a selection between the two markers. Since Vegas will stop playback at the end of the selection, it will stop at the marker on the right. That's as good as it gets.

Really? I've never noticed this behavior. With looping on Vegas jumps back to the beginning of the selection, but with it off Vegas just keeps on playing right past the end of the selection to the end of the project. Is there a preference setting somewhere to change this so that it does stop?

I've been called on to do a few community lectures recently and i've found it very workable to assembly my audio & video resources on the Vegas timeline. I can do all sorts of editing and titles, then play back the result through the external video device (a projector) while i'm speaking. It's really convenient to use JKL to rock back and forth as needed, use the mouse to jump wherever i need to as questions come up, add new material on the fly even while speaking and something is currently playing, etc.

I set markers wherever i want to pause, but i have to be alert enough to pause it myself or it keeps going right past into the next event. It would be really nice if Vegas did stop at the end of the selection, but it doesn't. Even if it did, i'd have to remember to set a new selection between the next two markers every time.

Having Vegas automatically pause at a marker would be very beneficial. Dunno if this is possible from scripting or not. any ideas?

Can't speak to the scripting, but Vegas does stop at the end of a Loop Region as long as that region is selected (you can tell by the Loop Region area turning blue). If you click away from it (and the blue area goes away) Vegas playback ignores the Loop Region. It's a little ephemeral, but it's consistent.

Arg. OK, got it pausing while it's blue. It was stopping and going back to the beginning of the selection until i changed spacebar to be play/pause instead of play/stop (which i don't like, since Enter is already play/pause). But, if i pause it myself, for example if someone asks a question, then the selection goes away too.

Even worse, when i double-click between the markers to reselect, the cursor moves back to the previous marker again.

Yeah, not very useful.
