PC rebooting during editing with Vegas Pro 18

FiorDiLoto wrote on 7/9/2024, 10:47 AM

Hello everyone. First of all I wanted to apologize for my less than perfect English, as it is not my first language.

For some time now, while I've been editing with Vegas Pro 18 (so even before I get to the rendering phase, which always proceeds without crashes or interruptions), my PC has been restarting randomly.

I also tried to monitor the temperatures but they don't seem to be the problem, given that even while playing I reach significantly higher temperatures without having any problems.

I imagine, at this point, that it is a problem that can be solved via software, in the hope of not having to change the power supply or anything else.

Thanks in advance for the help!

My specs:
GPU: AMD RX580 8GB
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 64bit

P.S.
The CPU is not overclocked and all the drivers are up to date, even Windows.

I also specify that this error is not always generated, often there is only "Windows shutdown incorrectly" or something like that

My guess is it's a CPU voltage issue. Decrease the clock speed or increase voltage a bit in bios so it doesn't crash under load?

But if this were the case, shouldn't the PC also randomly restart in other circumstances?

Not necessarily, software like games usually stress the GPU and not CPU. When I overclocked my CPU I was able to trigger such resets by being too stingy with voltage. I'd try a CPU stress test to be sure.

Heat can also cause a restart or shutdown of the computer.

Try pulling the clock speed down first to check if it is overheating. Make a note of your initial clock speed and CPU voltage.

If the CPU is not overclocked, what CPU cooler do you have on it? Airflow in the case, is it good?

I had an AIO on a Ryzen 7 1700X when it was first released. The AIO was good for about a year. Then one day, I turned on my computer, it turned on, then shut down. I tried this several times. I've been building computers since 1992. Well over a hundred. This was the first time I've had a computer shut down. I touched the water pump on the CPU and it was hot. Really hot. I took out the AIO and tossed on an air cooler (Hyper 212) and all was well.

The AIO was an Enermax, which became notorious for gunk on the cold plate.

Also check your settings in the BIOS to see what temps the CPU is running at. Video editing puts stress on your entire computer.
