PC restart by Microsoft update during capture!

I just walked into the other room to check on the tape I was capturing. The tape was at it's end and Vegas was gone. There was a little message down in the lower right hand corner that said something like:

"Computer restarted after high priority update"

Freaken' Microsoft! No wonder Macs are getting so popular!

. . but you DO get an option for "Auto Updates" to be held at bay.

What can I say? With Power comes responsibility!

Users of MS operating systems have no power, Grazie!

We are mere peasants, bowing to the Emperor. (Though some of us do hold up two fingers behind our backs).

Windows is highly customizable, one just has to know what they're doing.

I've been bitten by this too. I've had Windows restart right in front of me while i was typing without giving me the chance to save any files i was working on. Seems like fodder for a class action suit there!

I changed the updates to the setting that downloads automatically, but waits for me to manually install them. Not only does that keep the update process at bay until i want it to, but afterwards the computer will not reboot until i say it's ok to do so. And then, when i do, i'm given notice to save open files from each application before the reboot happens.

This still has the annoyance of the little "Windows needs to restart" popup every 5 minutes. Grrrrrrrr. But at least my work is safe now.

Quicktime did it to me during a render.

I have mine set to notify but not download or install. You don't always need the updates they try to send.
