Petition on behalf of a genius!

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time doing anything like this ... if you think it's not appropriate for this forum please feel free to flame me!

As many of you know I've been tearing my hair out for months with instability issues in Vegas Pro 8. This forum has been a place of hope and an amazing amount of help ... ie: I now have a system stable enough to at least finish this film project I'm working on. Thankyou.

In the process I needed to export from Vegas basically a 500 frame m2t as a high quality TIFF sequence so we could do some 3D Maya stuff. Couldn't find an answer anywhere. Rob Mack and a guy named Mike came to the rescue with a timely post pointing me to a really cool piece of software written by a bloke named Satish Kumar. It exports stuff, it does image sequence stuff, which previously Vegas couldn't do ... it's perfect for Vegas. It's called the Debugmode Frameserver. (I now have 500 beautiful TIFFs ready for Maya... I haven't even started exploring the possibilities of doing a full timeline AV 'render' into another app. without going via the hard-drive ... too cool!)

I wrote a thankyou note to Satish (and Rob and Mike) and suggested that the Debugmode Frameserver should be licensed by Sony for inclusion in Vegas Pro 8 permanently ... with its own dedicated button!

The license fee to Satish from Sony would be a great reward to a great programmer for offering a great FREE tool to otherwise hairless operators like myself.

If you want the Debugmode Frameserver as a permanent inclusion in Sony Vegas simply respond to this post and lets see what happens.

If you haven't got it ... get it ...

Actually that's not a bad idea, not a bad idea at all. Is that even something Sony Creative Software would consider doing?

Spot, being another provider of Sony Vegas applications, what are your thoughts on this matter?

If this forum's search worked I could probably find posts going back many years to when Satish first released his packages suggesting exactly this. I recall even suggestions they should give the man a job.

I think that's a great idea, but I doubt Sony will volunteer to pay for anything we can get for free. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to discuss it.
I don't use it often but it's a fantastic tool.

Yep to all that.

Just downloaded it and support the motion.

Agreed. Excellent idea.

I've always thought Satish deserved to have his products licensed by Sony. Not just the frameserver, but his WinMorph is brilliant, too. Here, here.

It seems to me that while that's a fine idea, I think that licensing Ultimate S or Excalibur would be better as it's still being developed and provides (along with the ability to make image sequences) a LOT of other functionalities that Vegas could benefit from ( and did I mention it's still actually being developed :) ).

Bump for a response from Spot.

Darren, thank you so much for bringing this plugin to light. A few weeks ago I had been asking around a couple of Vegas groups if such a plugin might exist without receiving a single response; what a pleasant surprise, and for free! I'd pay $ 100 or more if asked.

Eventually I will have to convert 80 minutes into four image sequences and this will eliminate one giant step in my workflow.

It's great isn't it!

It was Rob Mack and Mike who put me onto the Frameserver just a couple of days ago.

I understand what people are saying about Spot's excellent scipt stuff from VASST ... I own Celluloid and am evaluating Ultimate S3 at the moment ... both great tools and highly recommended ... although honestly I find the whole script relationship to events at timeline level and track level a little bit unstable ... and it's a bummer that the script sort of executes and then heads off back home again ... would be good if you could apply it to things and then apply to other things on the fly ... I don't know if that makes any sense ... maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Anyway, the thing with Satish's Frameserver is that it's just a 'render as' thing ... cool!

Cheers,

Darren

Agreed, Satish Kumar work was done on his on nickel.

tho,Ultimate S or Excalibur are nice, they charge for these scripts and goodies, so they receive something for their efforts.

you're welcome to PM me if you'd like my feelings on the subject.
I do think Satish' Frameserver is a very cool tool, and have used it on a few occasions.

I've been a Vegas-guy since v.3 but I feel the Vegas, DVDA, Sound Forge, Acid "suite" has languished since Sony acquired it from SoFo. We've seen other apps move forward while Sony seems to take smaller steps and concentrate on the lower end. I, for one, would hate to see Satish's excellent work devalued. I think all the 3rd parties are better off staying 3rd parties.

Your mileage may vary.

I think Ultimate S and Excalibur are important to the Sony apps, but they also demonstrate that third party apps are possible in a limited market.

I do think DSE has help this forum and other forums as much as anyone. We are fortunate that we have many helpful individuals on this forum. I have noticed more so over the last year or two that you have to be Teflon coated for some simple discussions about "facts". Its way too often DSE and others are slammed for being correct. So DSE and others do deserve an extra star in their column. I was so dis pointed on some forums where DSE when out of his way to post some clips from a new camera and he was slammed over "framing" and other dumb issues, like it was just an example, not a movie shoot clip!

Thanks for all the comments.

Not sure which way to go with this now ... DSE gets a kick-back on his third parties as he should, probably right about not 'devaluing' Satish' stuff by including it in Vegas, (I agree that when Sonic Foundry were pounding out the code things were rocking along ... ) ... so perhaps Satish could simply include a 'donate if you like it' option ... bit lame but at least I could slip him that '$100' - a figure Paul Fierlinger suggested.

Could be a start.

Thanks again for all the comments. If you'd like to see some of the results from the FrameServer and Ultimate S3 you can see stuff in the gallery at www.thesilentwomanmovie.com
