Really, working in isolation, as I do, having this portal to my chums here is a real "coffee-break" option for me. I've honestly missed my dose of everybody here - missed y'all over the last 48 hours. Anyway, back on stream now and back to editing - Love V4!

- Oh repeat of a wish to have the posts, I've just made, come back up as having been read, instead of remaining "BLACK" - ie, unread. I do find this a tad infuriating.

Good Morning from London UK,

Grazie

Grazie, that might be a tad tough to do. This forum software uses an intriguing method of letting you know if you've read a post or if it's been changed since then. It includes the number of replies in the URL to the message. This means that after you read a message, your browser has the URL in it's history so it shows as a recently visited link (ie. in a different color). Now the nifty thing is that if someone else adds a reply, that number changes, and so does the URL since it contains the number. Now it's a different link which doesn't match the one in your browser's history and *poof* it's back to being shown as unread.

So much for that. Now, here's the kicker: You open up a message and it's added to your browser's history. Now you make a reply and you have incremented that number. You go back to the list and the number has changed since you last opened the message ... because you changed it! In effect, it hasn't been read by you (or your browser anyway) since before you added your new reply. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I suppose one way around this, and it's the method i use in my forum to prevent lots of accidental double replies, is to have the forum software not display the topic again after submitting a reply, but to instead briefly put up an empty "placeholder" page that instantly redirects you to viewing the message at the new, imcremented URL. It's a bit more programming work, but it wouldn't be terribly hard to implement. As a bonus, it avoids having your message posted multiple times when you get impatient and start clicking the Reload/Refresh button because it takes so long for the page to load.
