Photo disorder in montage

I am having a problem while trying to compose a photo montage in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. I bring a group of photos onto the time line and for reasons I don't understand they are out of order when they appear. For example they are in a folder labeled 1 through 10 in order. I select and drag to the time line.
When they arrive on the time line they are in random order like 10 through 6 then 1 through 5. I suspect it is a simple setting I need to check but for the life of me I can't figure it out.
Can some one please help!

From your explanatin I'm not sure if this is the problem .. but Vegas (and computers in general) don't sort numbers as they were numbers .. they sort them alphabetically.

If you have numbers from one to 100 you need to re-name them from 001 to 100 for the program to sort them properly.

Don't think that's it. I just renamed and still same problem. Thanks though.
Funny thing is I made a montage a year or so ago and did not have this problem then.
That is 1 reason I think it is settings or properties. I may have inadvertently clicked a box or...? and just don't recall as I don't use this program often.

Still hoping for more suggestions.

Thanks again.

Rather than dragging them onto the timeline, use Project > Open, select the first picture then check the "Open still image sequence" box.

I just experimented with this a little bit while dragging from the Windows explorer to the timeline. I'm running on Windows XP. What really matters is where you start your drag *from*, after you've clicked and Shift+clicked to build up your selection list of photos. Make sure you start your drag of that entire list when the mouse pointer is over the specific photo you want to be first.

When I started the drag from the middle of the group, I saw similar results as you reported.

It also appears they are placed on the timeline in the same order as they are sorted in the Windows explorer (starting from the selected item that has primary focus, the one you started the drag from).

I'd expect the results to be similar on Vista and Windows 7, maybe someone else can report back on this.

You don't mention what version you are running, but in VMS 10 you can use the Slideshow Creator to build up your photo montage. You can drag the photos around within the Picture tab to reorder them. Make sure you select the video track you want them to be dropped on before you click the Create button. Though you can immediately undo (Ctrl+Z) and select a different track if they didn't go where you wanted them to.
