Butch,
It should change on the t/l as soon as the changes are saved. Just tried it with VP13 and a .PNG file.

Go to http://sony.vegas.1.free.fr/ and download the free Open In Graphic Editor script courtesy of Gilles Pialat.
It's worth it's weight in gold when dealing with Photoshop graphics :)

"Close media files when not active application" - option in Preferences. Turn it ON.

Also, be prepared to loose your toolbar icons when going back and forth between Vegas and PS. Here's a recent thread with some workarounds.

Got it!

It's one of those little things that that you take for granted in Vegas. It really speeds up the process.

Thanks all!

Vegas is closing media files when not the active application, except for the PSD file I have in my project. Once I load the project in Vegas, I can't edit and save the PSD file, PS gets the "file open in another application" error.

If I exit Vegas, the problem persists. Opening Task Manager, I see the vegas pro process is still running. I had to kill Vegas from Task Manager in order to edit the PS file.

After all this, I finally got smart and exported the PSD file to PNG format from PS. Now I can edit the PSD file all I want, then export it to the same PNG file. Vegas picks up the update immediately.

Users of Vegas 13 and Vegasaur extension can now benefit from Auto Offline tool which saves them from such workarounds.

Altarvic, I wish this was available to me in Vegas 12. Since moving to Windows 10 and/or Photoshop CC I am no longer able to get Vegas 12 to release files to Photoshop, although I have it properly set in Vegas preferences. I actually have to shut Vegas down to get it to release a PSD so Photoshop can close it. Frustrating.

Jayster, I use the same .png workaround. For some reason Vegas does not like to close psds even with the option chosen. Once in a while it works but most of the time I have to close Vegas to save my PSD changes. I think this problem started when they added layer support to psds.
