Picture quality - pixalation and jerky motion

Hi all

I have been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 for a while and have been having some issues with the picture quality.

Details below:
The source files are .vob files
I convert these to MPEG2s so i can work in Vegas (i tried just changing the .vob to .mpeg file extension so i could work in Vegas but i found that a 45min segment of video only showed up as about 5 minutes in the preview window and i couldn't see any more no matter what i tried)
Working in Vegas the picture pixalates at normal speed - but ok when the original was in slo-motion.
After rendering not only is it pixalated but the movie is very jittery - the movie does not flow smoothly.

Any thoughts? Is it a compression rate setting or something?

I am running Vegas on a Sony Vaio F series with i7 processor and quad core CPU on Windows Ultimate (so plenty of grunt)

Any other info required?

Many thanks for any help anyone has to offer?

It seems it's your conversion at fault. Try another codec, maybe an intermediate one. For example, you can install the Matrox AVI codec, and then by using SUPER and VfW, you can convert your vob to .avi without loss of quality.

Many thanks for the help

I will install that codec.

But the jerky motion does not become apparent until AFTER the rendering process (the pixallation does become evident in the preview window however).

I'll see if that codec makes any difference

I use 'Any Video Converter' to convert the files.

i have downloaded the Matron codec but am unsure how to use this in the conversion process? Does the system pick it up automatically or do i have to add it somehow?

(apologies, have not had much to do with manually working with codecs)

I haven't used "Any video Converter". I'd suggest you download SUPER, that should be able to "see" the Matrox codec.

After a few goes i managed to download Super

But i can't see the Matrox codec in the Super 'Output Video Codec' drop down menu (altho i can see the programme installed on my PC)

The drop down menu has VP6, VP61, Flash Video and H.264/AVC options (any of these the Matrox codec?)

Check with the AVI exporting options, on the top. Also check the directx checkbox that's somewhere around there.

Nope no good.

Still can't see the Matrox codec. Can anyone suggest a VFW program that will be able to see the Matrox codec (apart from Super) or another condec/conversion program that will allow me to convert from .vob without loss of quality?

Many thanks
