Picture Splotches

I've scrolled back through many, many pages through these forums, and couldn't find any other posts that seemed to have the same problem as me.

I also seem to be the only person who doesn't get their videos from a camcorder - I work with machinima, which is just a fancy word for video clips taken from computer games.

Some friends and I work together and make a little sitcom with the computer game The Sims 2. Up until recently, I've been using Windows Movie Maker to edit and arrange the files, and everything went fine. Once I bought Vegas, however, there was a...for lack of a better word, pixelated splotchiness in seemingly random segments of the video file. Take these pictures, for example.

That's what it's supposed to look like. The overall grainy quality is just due to the less-than-stellar video capture settings I have in the game. But then when you look at a still from when the blotchiness takes over, you get this...

Notice it around his face, the grainy, really crappy quality-look. I've never had that before I used Vegas, and these video files work fine in other video editing programs, so that leads me to think that the problem is with Vegas.

But, I've also used real video clips, ones that aren't from The Sims, and they work fine. So then THAT leads me to think that Vegas ISN'T the problem. So as you can see, I'm in a bit of a pickle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

RSarge,
I must admit I've got little idea as to what this could be, but just to satisfy my curiosity, a few Qs if you don't mind:
1. What format is the file you are importing into Vegas? AVI? MPEG?
2. Are seeing these artifacts in the final render as well as the preview screen?
3. What are the final render settings? What compression codec? Perhaps they are too low in terms of quality?

Finally, as a test, try rendering to a lossless format, such as uncompressed AVI (it will be big, so just choose a small selection). Do you still get the artifacts?
