Pictures darker in Vegas than in Photoshop

In Vegas Pro 10.0, I use video footage and still pictures shot with Canon 5D Mk2. Stills I usually develop in Lightroom 4.0 and/or Photoshop CS6 and save them as TIFF, PNG, or JPEG. The pictures have good colors and everything seems O.K.

My video footage retains great colors in Vegas Pro, but my stiil pictures look dark and ugly. There is very little color in them, although they look good in other applications. I think this may be due to different color profiles. I tried the "Save As" option and the "Save for Web" option in Photoshop, which is supposed to convert files to sRGB, and everything failed. The stills are still dark in Vegas Pro 10.

I am not an expert - just trying to learn, but could not find an answer or a hint online. Please help - this is my first question in this forum. Maybe this problem has already been discussed and solved - if yes, please let me know where to find the solution.

Did you try the Export feature in Lightroom, instead of the Save As option in Photoshop? There is a setting under File Settings that lets you set the color space to sRGB. I have LR 3.6, but it should be similar in LR 4.

I do this all the time with stills and they look great in Vegas. I have a Canon 7D for what it's worth and shoot in RAW. I use Lightroom to export JPEG. This also makes it really easy to re-size pics in bulk, which also saves me time in Vegas.

This sounds as though you are using video levels [16-250] instead of computer levels [full 0-255]. Either adjust this in your project settings, or simply enjoy the increased dynamic range and apply a 'Curves' effect to boost the mid-tones and widen the apparent dynamic range.
