Pinnacle Codecs Not Being Seen?

I was under the impression that if codecs were on your computer, Vegas would pick them up, however, I have mpeg2 and mp4, including DivX codecs that are in Pinnacle Studio that don't appear in Vegas. All Vegas has are something called MainConcept AVC/AAC and Sony AVC/AAC but these are not as flexible as the Pinnacle mp4 codec or the DivX codec. Also, Windows Media Player 11 won't even play the mp4 files...only Quicktime plays them.

Lastly, when I try to use the mpeg2 codec in Vegas, it gives me an error messae saying something about the codec not being unlocked or something to that effect.

Sorry for these questions, if this is obvious stuff, but I'm not as familiar with Vegas as I am with Studio yet.

Thanks.

Regarding WMP not playing mp4, it's normal. As for the DivX codec, I can find mine by tweaking the "codec" drop down menu under "custom" under the .avi option. I don't know about the rest of the codecs.

Thanks Eugenia! Now I see the DivX codec and some other "typical" Windows codecs as well.

I'm still wondering why I can't use the mpeg2 (DVD) codec though. I know this is a licensed codec, but because Pinnacle Studio comes with one free, I was assuming that Vegas did also.

Does anyone know if I have to somehow "authorize" this codec or do I have to pay for it somehow with Vegas?

Vegas comes with its own, licenced mpg2 codec (look for MainConcept). No need to use Pinnacle's. Still, some users report problems on the matter. The problematic unlocking of the mpg encoder was signalled in an older thread . In that case, the problem was solved by uninstalling any 'old' Vegas program (or trial), and, if needed, (re-)installing the upgrade/new program. The person had VMSplat 6 and wanted to upgrade to VMSplat 8. So make sure you don't have any Vegas trials or old versions on your pc. There's no need to go into the registry. Just do an ordianary 'uninstall' of the obsolete software. Good luck!

OK, thanks ivan123--you are right. Now I see the MainConcept mpeg2 codec and it seems to work even though I still have my Vegas 6 installed.

Sorry for the basic questions--I'm still trying to wean myself off of Pinnacle Studio and I don't know Vegas that well yet :-)
