Pinnacle Studio co-existance

kingsfan wrote on 5/8/2005, 8:26 PM
Hi,
I am new the the forum and new to the Vegas world. I have Pinnacle Studio 9 and am seriously thinking of graduating to Vegas 6+DVDA. SInce I would like to use Studio for some of the Hollywood FX functionality, I will like to install Vegas 6+DVDA on the same machine as Studio.

I have the trial version of Vegas 6 installed on a separate machine, and having done some "on-the-job training" on it, I am feeling reasonably comfortable to make the purchase.

Are there any issues with co-exustenace of the two that I should be aware of?

Thanks for your assistance.

As long as Vegas is installed after Pinnacle, you'll have no issues. I'm running both on a machine right now.

Thanks for the quick response. Are you using DVDA 3 also with Studio 9? What capture card are you using. I have the Pinnacle supplied OHCI compliant card. Do I need to unstall the Pinnacle drivers for the card in order for Vegas 6 to recognize it?

Can't speak to DVD-A as I don't use it, but I too have the firewire card that came with my Studio7 package a few years back. I've since upgraded to Studio8, which of course I never use any more since I use Vegas almost exclusively. I'm still running Vegas4, though I've played with the trial version of Vegas5. I've never had any problems with Vegas and Studio compatibility.

I have Vegas 5 & 6, DVDA-2 & 3 and Pinnacle Studio 9 on my machine. Haven't burned a DVD with Studio 9 since purchasing Vegas, but I occasionally use it to generate a Smart Sound file.

But I frequently burn with DVDA-2, and now 3. Have never had a failure with either, and see no conflicts with the existence of Studio on my system.

I have a tutorial on my web site called How to use Hollywood FX that will show you how to do this in Vegas. I use Hollywood FX occasionally with Vegas for some of the book transitions (in the Weddings folder). I stopped buying Pinnacle at Studio 7 and HFX 4.6 but the tutorial should still be relevant since it’s primarily about what you need to do in Vegas to prepare, export and import. Hope you find it helpful.

I'm have Vegas 5 & DVDA 2, Vegas 6 & DVDA 3, and Studio Plus 9.3.5.10 installed on the same machine. They all play well togeather.

Simple but brilliant -- thanks for posting that. Makes me (tentatively) consider putting Pinnacle Studio 8 back on my PC. It's a PITA, but it's got some neat transitions that would take quite a bit of work to duplicate in Vegas. If I just use it for the occassional small job, maybe it won't give me fits...

I can echo all that has been offered so far on this thread. I purchased Studio 7 and left the Pinnacle path at that point, although, recently, in order to digitize some of my analog stuff without dubbing to my digi8 cam, I bought a Dazzle thingy (DVC90) that included a throttled down version of Studio 9.

Depending upon my mood (and my needs - mostly for Studio's Titledeiko utility), I install/uninstall Studio at will. There never seems to be a whimper from Vegas.

Vegas includes a switch to ignore all third party codecs that provides ultimate insurance against interference from the Pinnacle software (this used to be a major headache - I haven't been bothered by Pinnacle interference in I don't remember how long).

In my view, Pinnacle remains hands-down the leader in low-cost titling - its Titledeiko far more intuitive - if limited - than stuff that ships with Vegas.

But, in terms of the editing interface, you will be astounded by how easy and intuitive working in Vegas is compared to all the opening/closing you have to do to in Studio to achieve anything approaching the workflow you have readily available to you in Vegas.

I heartily encourage you to proceed with your move to Vegas . . . you won't be sorry.

When I was using Studio, I purchased the full Hollywood FX package and I was making my own transitions with 3D objects that I imported. So I really missed HFX a lot when I started using Vegas 3. That’s why I tried to figure out a clean way of getting accurate results when moving between the two programs.

I didn’t realize that other people here might be interested in HFX. I just added a set of transitions to my web site that I made and exported from HFX. If you go back to that tutorial page, you’ll see a download link at the end of the first paragraph with a ZIP file that contains some cube spins and scene swaps.

If you like TitleDeko, try Cayman Graphics Power CG. It’s like TitleDeko on steroids.

I also have Studio9 co-existing with Vegas without problems. But I have not been able to capture with Vegas VidCap using the Pinnacle Analog Capture board. I'd love to uninstall Studio9, but can't because Vegas won't recognize the capture card.

You can use Scenalyzer for capturing analog with the Pinnacle Analog Capture Board.
