Pioneer DVR-A08XL Dual Layer Burner

I know DVDA2 doesn't support dual layer burners yet, but I'm wondering if anyone is using the dual layer Pioneer DVR-A08XL and burning single layer disks with DVDA2. I'm building a new PC and I'm thinking about purchasing this drive now and hope that DVDA will eventually support it. But in the interim, I would use it for burning single layer disks.

I didn't know Pioneer had a dual layer burner out yet but like you I would stick to single layer for a while longer. I use Adobe Encore 1.5 in stead of DVDA2, it supports dual layer via a DLT drive.

Don,
have you actually TRIED to create a dual layer DLT? And output and sent to a replicator? Doesn't work.
DVD Workshop from Ulead has a DLT and DDP output option/patch that works, but it's a very tight flow. I'm hoping Sony does this right with DVDA.

We're using the Sony burner and Pioneer burner. When both are started to burn simultaneously at similar speed, Sony finishes about 30 seconds faster, don't have a clue as to why.

Spot I have not tried it yet, Encore says it can do DL if I write each layer to a DLT one layer on each tape, in the DLT drive. I have found a refurbished Quantum DLT 2000 using DLT tape III. It has not arrived yet. I have not purchased a dual layer drive at this time but I intend to do so soon. The Encore help file on dual layer also says it also depends on the firmware of the burner. If you tell Encore to do a "master" the it goes lookong for a DLT drive.
