Have a dv tape shot last year that i really need some footage off
on playback it is a mess artifacts on every frame ,picture seemingly drifts frames, kind of playing two or three at a time. However no matter where you pause the tape, it becomes perfect. So If i captured each frame i think i have my shot. any ideas how to do that , automated ?
Thanks

My camera has a frame advance mode. It wouldn't be automatic, but if the section you want is reasonable short you could advance frames once at a time and capture stills from them.

Try playing it back in the camera which recorded it if you aren't doing that now. If it looks o.k. in camera, see if you can firewire it over to the computer from the camera.

We had a client in the other day with a tape we couldn't get to play from our deck, but which played beautifully from his camera. My guess would be misaligned heads in the camera.

Yeah i believe it was misaligned heads , but the cam that shot the video has been serviced since, tried on a deck and 4 diff cams, same deal. Very weird how when it freezes the shot is clear, thanks for respondind and thanks chienworks, i think what you suggest is probably what i'll have to do, or use scenalyzer to conrol the cam and move one frame at a time,, going to be a long friday.
