Platinum 12 - Audio Drifting Out of Sync

I purchased this product for a specific purpose, as the software I used previusly for home movies was never going to edit AVCHD - which all my Panasonic cameras not produce as video output.

So I created a project in which I collected all the crappy digital camera videos over the years in short segments and strung them together with dates and cross fades etc... These start with a Cannon 2.0 Megapixel digital Elph, and end up with a Panasonic Lumix G5 (1080P AVCHD).

The software does indeed render the output video, however when I play the video on multiple platforms the audio drifts out of syn with the video.

This happens in VLC played on the PC, and on XBMC on Windows (same PC), and Android (FireTV). In fact, the only thing I could find that seems to keep the Audio in sync is a SageTV media extender - which I do not wish to rely on as it when it dies, there is no easy replacement. (XBMC likely being it).

So I have tried re-rendering in different formats - sorry don't remember the first two tries' details - but they resulted in a mp4, and a m2ts file extension. I am now rendering again with what I believe was labelled as HDV 1080 and it's going to result in a .m2t file.

Any advice on the output format? What would you more senior users of the software do for this project (disparate formats getting better and better over 7 years of collected camera footage).
I tried the .mp4 as I was hoping for some compression - but if larger file size is necessary for it to play on the mentioned platforms then so be it.

I would first convert all the original videos to the same intermediate file (eg avchd) individually. There are programmes that have a batch function to do this in one go. Then put these files on the timeline in Vegas and render the file to mp4 1080p.
Here is a list of free converters. Personally, I like Handbrake a lot:
