Playback and render problem after upgrade to Vegas Pro 18

Bruce-Kassover wrote on 6/22/2021, 5:11 PM

I have recently upgraded to Vegas Pro 18 and have encountered a problem when previewing and rendering: Some (or all) of the clips in my timeline will display as totally black in the preview window and when rendered (audio seems to work fine). Occasionally, rather than seeing black, I see a glitchy mess with green and magenta bars along with garbled portions of the image, but most of the time, it's just the black screen that I see.

There's one more strange element to this: When I have a cut between two clips, the correct image appears for just a moment - just a quick flash - in both the preview and render. My drivers are up to date, I've clicked a whole bunch of settings on and off, I've tried resetting Vegas and I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Nothing seems to make a difference. Anyone with any thoughts on how this might be fixed? Thanks for any insight you may have!

My system specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H

RAM: 64GB

Video: NVIDIA GeForce RDX 2060

Software: Vegas Pro 18, Build 527

@Bruce-Kassover In Options/Preferences/File I/O try unchecking everything, and to OFF. Assuming that the problem goes away, then enable items step by step and see if you can identify what causes the issue.

The green is usually that the clip is unreadable but has proxies available, the black is usually that the clip is unreadable but has no proxie. Disabling HW decoding may help, or changing the HW decoding type in File I/O. i.e. Amd, Intel, Nvdec, depending on what’s available.

If that doesn’t work then give the mediainfo of the problem video clip and make available via download link if possible.

Thanks for the suggestions, JN - you helped me solve my problem. I turned off everything in File I/O and played around by adding things back in. Looks like by keeping all off and switching my hardware decoder, I was able to get things to work properly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem stays solved, but at least for now, I'm back up and running. Much appreciated!
