Not seeing this myself. Maybe give some more info about your system and media being used.

@Nosoner - Do a Test. In a New Veg, using a Generated Event, see if you get the same delay.

Thanks for your replies , I just removed VP 20 and I use VP 19 instead with no playback problem...I tried a lot of things and settings , re-installed VP 20 but nothing works...still the delay when pressing playback...( with or without médias in the software )...Never had this with older Vegas versions...

audio buffering in preferences?

@relaxvideo Thanks , you helped me...I found my problem by changing the audio device with audio buffering disabled...Playback works fine now...Thanks everyone for the replies.

Was having the same problem in V19... yup the buffering in Audio options was set at 1 (I'm guessing that's 1 second. That's about the length of the delay).
Set it to 0 but the audio sounded terrible, so I set it to about 0.2 that works.

I had the same problem. I went into Audio Device and it had Audio Buffering at 1 second. I slid this back to .01 as I saw no 0 option. But playing the track there is now a bunch of noise like a record pop. As mentioned above, I tried .20 and it sounds way better.

My solution/findings: Options>Preferences>Audio Device>Playback buffering (seconds) Set to no less than .02 setting at .01 will cause noise and have your render have no audio.

#1 Can anyone explain why there would be all kinds of noise that is not on the track itself or the original audio at .01 and lots less but a bit at .20? I assume the "buffering causes that delay when you press pause to do an edit, at 1 second you hear the recording continue playing for a noticeable period although it sounds less than a second. It makes it difficult to place your split or whatever you want to do at the point you pause. At .20 I cant pick up any noticeable delay though I assume it's actually .20 seconds. I did try .25 and my brain hears an ever so slight delay in pausing.

#2 below is my original question but here are the test results to that question 1st. I tried 8 different buffering settings to listen to the resulting rendoring. I tried 1.0 seconds, .20, .15, .1,.05, .03, .02, .01. All rendered the recording perfvectly with no noise except .01. .01 had a bunch of noise when playing from the timeline, but when I rendered it, it rendered it with no audio. Does anyone know why? I assume the program knows there is a noise defect (that setting it at.01 created) and thus disabled the audio somehow in rendering.

So my conclusion is that you can set buffering all the way down though .02 to eliminate the delay but if you go all the way to .01 it will remove your audio. I did not have to recreate the project with each change, simply applying the changes allows you to render with the new buffering setting. So your project will not be ruined, just the render at .01.

(Original question #2 Do you think even though there is popping and noise at .1, it would render with that? I don't think I want to produce stuff having to hear that noise even if it renders without it, but it would be interesting to see if it renders with a noise the buffering created on playback even though it is not in the original recording. I think I'm going to do a test render and put the results to question #2)

I am using VP 22. Thxs
