Playback Problems

I recently upgraded to Vegas 9.0c and finally was able, with help from this forum, to import AVCHD files to the Vegas timeline. However, playback is a "strob" slow motion and the clear audio in no way matches the jerky video. I am using a 2.8ghz dual core HP Media Center system with 4g of ram and a new GeForce 9800GT video card. I tried tips in Knowledge Base and have been unsuccessful. Any help would be most appreciated.

1st thing to check:

Is the project properties (File/Properties) set to match the material on the timeline? You must match the properties with the clip media properties to get a smooth playback.

My opinion. To playback at anywhere near full frame rate (hence smoothly) AVCHD in Vegas requires at least a Quad Core processor. If you had good playback in 8.0c -- keep using it and then do your renders in 9.0c which might be a bit faster.

Stay in 9.0c. ! There are lot.'s of other things to check.probably besides the timeline Your preview quality and size will make a huge difference. Make sure your preview playback is set to auto, or preview, and keep the box small. Once you get smooth playback then just edge up the box size until it complains and back off a little. Check your project properties, make sure you have the right video and audio settings. Try setting your RAM for preview (in the options menu) to about 1/4th of your total. that will give vegas plenty to work with outside of RAM-preview. You never want to set that too high! Also be sure to check out thread 22 by blink3times. It's called "Some interesting memory observations and avchd" I learned a lot from that discussion and it does help
