Playback question about my first DVD

I have just tried to play my first DVD in a trial version of Power DVD 5 & have seen a few things that I can't explain. Now my DVD starts with a background photo which was music playing in the background. This opening has 2 buttons, the first is play which goes & plays starting with chapter 1 & the second is for scene selection. I have 3 scene selection pages each of which has 9 animated thumbnails. If I press play or scene selection the appropriate action starts. If I use the navigational tools I can jump to the chapters without a problem. The first thing that surprises me is that can't find any way once the video is playing to get back to the opening screen even though I can use the right click tool & the go to command to get to other chapters. I guess you could say that I was trying to go back to the menu but couldn't. Is this normal?

One option given is to right click as the video is playing & get displayed on the screen the details of the file playing. Since I encoded the DVD using variable bit rate I wasn't surprised that the displayed bit rate constantly changed as the video played. I was surprised about the range reported. In one 2 minute area of video the figure varied from 2.36 to 9.1. Is that wide a range normal?

The audio is stated as being LPCM 2.0 with a bit rate of 1536 KBPS. I created the project in Vegas & used identical file names when I used the setting for AC3 & the DVD Video Stream template. The preview feature in DVDA told be that the menus that I had created had to be rendered but no mention was made about the audio which I had imported into DVDA as AC3. Is there any reason for this?

I also noted in passing that Power DVD 5 was concerned about what region the DVD was from. This is strange since almost and stand alone DVD you wish to purchase now seems to be play DVD's from any region for as long as you like.
