Playback stutters - Please help me

I,m getting occasional stutters in my playback, even when my system resources are barely used. I'm using a PIII with 256 of ram. What could couse this, and how do I fix it?? Please help.

please tell a little more about your system
operating system ? speed of processor ? what make computer?

do you have only one HD ?

if more then 1 HD ..do you use the 2nd HD just for video ? and is the 2nd a slave to your C drive or slave to CD-ron or master on 2ndary ?

make sure you have Ultra DMA enabled

its a PIII 600 HP Pavillion w/256 ram on Win 98 (2nd ed.) w/one HD. I'm not using any video, just sound. Thanks for any help you can give.

One possible solution would be to increase the playback buffer within Vegas. This is located under options>preferences>audio. The default it .25 sec. I would suggest that you increase this setting to .5 or .75 seconds and see if that helps.

I'd be inclined to think it was a buffer issue as well. Are you playing all your audio files back from your harddrive? What speed is the drive?
