Playlist Start Chapters OK in DVDA preview, not in burned BluRays

Hello,

I've created a BluRay project with a menu with 7 playlist buttons. Each playlist has the same media, but a different Start Chapter.

It works OK in DVDA preview, i.e. the menu playlist buttons all start playback at the correct Start Chapters. However when the same project is burned to BluRay, the playlist start chapters are ignored. Every playlist button starts playback at chapter 1.

I've tried the BluRay in two different players, one Samsung and one Sony. Playlist start chapters are ignored in both players.

I've also tried changing the marker types in DVDA from "Scene/Chapter" to "Chapter". This had no effect. Start Chapters worked OK in DVDA preview, but not in burned BluRay.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there some trick to getting playlist Start Chapters recognized after a project has been burned to BluRay?

BTW the project media with chapter markers was edited and rendered into an AVS file by VegasPro 16, if that makes a difference. DVDA inherited the chapter markers from VegasPro.

DVDA version: Build 100
Vegas Pro Version: 16
OS: Windows 7

BluRay Players:
Samsung BD-D6700
Sony UBP-X800

If I am reading your post correctly, you have a single video with chapters added to the project and you are creating playlists to enable buttons on a menu to jump to a particular chapter within that video.

Is this correct and what is the purpose of the playlist - ie are you trying to make different play multiple chapter sequences; eg:

Button 1 plays chapters 1, 3, 5, 7,
Button 2 plays chapters 2, 4, 6,
Button 3 plays 1, 4, 2, 5
etc

Which export preset are using to get an AVS or do you mean an AVC file?

I seem to have created a non-problem for myself here. For the time being I gave up on playlists and switched to chapter buttons in the menu. It's working the way I originally wanted playback to work, eg

Button 1 plays all chapters in sequence
Button 2 plays chapters 2-6 in sequence
Button 3 plays chapters 3-6 in sequence
etc

It's a variation of your example, with all of the chapters in numerical sequence after the Start Chapter.

In the distant past I thought I had to use playlists to make this happen. I was having problems with end actions for each Chapter Button, that is, at the end of a chapter playback it would return to the menu instead of proceeding to the next chapter. Using playlists with Start Chapters solved the end action issue, or so I thought back then.

Guess I was just plain wrong. Both of my BD players work fine with Chapter Buttons per my wishes, and DVDA works OK too.

Although I've probably worked around the issue for now, it does leave the original question unanswered: why were Playlist Start Chapters ignored during playback of discs, but not in DVDA preview?

FYI: you're right, I meant AVC for the Vegas rendered video. The rendering preset is Sony AVC/MVC, Blu-Ray 1920X1080-24p, 16Mbs video stream. The audio preset is Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio, 5.1 Surround DVD.

That is the usual way of creating chapters, if you want to create buttons that play only the single chapter see the PDF manual chapter

'Creating a menu that returns to the scene selection menu after playing the selected scene/chapter' (page 158 in DVDA 7 manual)

I have just completed a project with 11 movies (titles) that does this, it also used one play list - button is 'Play all' - to play all 11 movies in sequence, and I also created an issue with the button orders.

In and Out Points, I remember it now. It's also in the application help under "Adding a scene selection menu". All in plain sight, so naturally I didn't see it.

That is close to what I did, except for quantity and quality (I'm sure). I'd like to see the finished product, if possible. Is there a way to access (or buy) it? It would be great resource material, and having it would probably save you folks a lot of time in this forum.

Whatever, thanks yet again for your help and patience. I'm sure I'll be back the next time I forget how to find the In and Out Points of a paper bag, etc.
